Comment entretenir un bouquet de fleurs

How to care for a bouquet of flowers

The maintenance of cut flowers is an important element, in order to ensure the longevity of our flowers at home. Indeed, whether it is pretty flowers from the florist or a bouquet of wild flowers, Madame Alice offers you here some advice for the maintenance of your bouquets of flowers.

  • First, do not cut the green rope that holds the flowers. I studied floristry to create balanced and harmonious designs. If you cut the rope…well you unfortunately break the balance of the bouquet in addition to deconstructing the bundle that serves to protect the stems of the various flowers and greenery.
  • Put your flowers in water as quickly as possible to avoid creating air bubbles in the stem…because no one likes a bubble in their brain…especially not roses.
  • Change the water in your flowers every 2-3 days.  This prevents the growth of algae or bacteria in your water.
  • Cut the stems at an angle of + or – 1 cm every 2-3 days. This action promotes effective and constant hydration of the flowers and greenery.
  • Remove ALL leaves touching the water. Leaves in water are bad! It will spoil your fresh water.
  • Do not expose your flowers to direct sunlight. This will cause your flowers to age prematurely.
  • Keep flowers away from fruit, as fruit releases ethylene gas which helps cut flowers ripen.
  • Finally, you can add a drop of bleach or lemon juice to your vase to slightly acidify your water and extend the life of your bouquet of flowers.
